R5 is
the current name of a shoot-em-up I am writing using Visual
Basic 6 and Direct X 7. It is the updated version of my final
year university project containing enhanced graphics and gameplay
and requiring a considerably less powerful computer to run
(the original project included about a gigabyte of full motion
video).
So
what is it?
R5 is a multi-directional scrolling
shoot-em-up game. The idea is simply to blast everything you
see with the biggest guns you can find.
What
does it do?
R5 is designed to run in a high-colour fullscreen mode at
50 frames per second. The graphics engine uses a multi-layer
paralax background combined with 3D accelerated water and
nebula effects to create colourful and varied levels and the
game includes options for additional lighting effects (if
you have a fast machine) and a 25 fps low detail mode (if
you have a slow machine).

R5 Demos
Playable R5 demo now on the files page
(just a bit of space-invaders style shooting, the cave level
demo will have to wait until after I finish my Uni work).
